Ribera del Duero D.O. revealed its latest annual selection – the Tim Atkin MW Ribera del Duero Selection - at an exclusive tasting in London on Wednesday 20th November, with every wine included in the list scoring an impressive 91 points or above.
The 2024 Ribera del Duero Tim Atkin MW Selection, meticulously curated by the British Master of Wine, highlights the remarkable variety of red and white wines available from the region. The collection spans robust, complex wines full of old-world character, with layers of spice, dark fruit, and smoky undertones, to fresher, more fruit-forward younger wines that emphasise the region’s vibrancy and versatility. These selections celebrate the diversity of the Ribera del Duero terroirs, the exceptional quality of its wines, and the rise of innovative styles and blends.
During his visit in September, Tim Atkin MW tasted 551 wines from 173 bodegas in Ribera del Duero, visiting nearly half of them in person. Delving into the complexity of the terroir, making contact with winemakers and oenologists and enjoying the gastronomy and heritage.
“Nothing beats going to Ribera del Duero to taste in situ, but this is the next best thing. I think Ribera del Duero is in a very exciting place right now. It is producing the most diverse and, I think, the most terroir-focused wines in its history, at least at the top end.”
Pablo Baquera, Marketing Director at Ribera del Duero D.O. details: “We’re excited to announce the 2024 Ribera del Duero Tim Atkin MW Selection. These wines are outstanding each in their own right. Every bottle in this collection is a true expression of its distinctive and challenging terroir, brought to life through the dedication, precision, and hard work of our viticulturists, winegrowers and winemakers.”
Continuing the tradition from previous years, Tim Atkin MW has selected some of the finest budget-friendly Ribera del Duero wines to highlight the region's exceptional value. Every wine in this selection has earned a score of 91 points or higher and is priced under €16 in Spain, offering remarkable quality at an accessible price point. This year brings an exciting chance to explore a curated selection of Ribera del Duero’s unrepresented wines, all scoring 91+ points from some of the region's top-rated wineries. For the first time, winemakers and producers were invited to showcase their wines at the tasting, with priority given to those featured in the unrepresented category.
Located north of Madrid in Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero DO is renowned as the birthplace of many of Spain’s most celebrated wines. With a mix of complex soils, old vines, high altitudes, and challenging climates, every wine from this remarkable region authentically expresses its unique terroir.
