Ribera del Duero D.O. revealed its seventh annual Ribera del Duero Top 100 Selection at a tasting in London this afternoon, with every wine included in the list scoring an impressive 94 points or above, with Tim Atkin MW claiming that ‘quality is better than ever’.
The Ribera del Duero Top 100 Selection 2023, which has been carefully curated by Tim Atkin MW, features an exceptional collection of red and white wines, ranging from big, bold and textured wines brimming with rich, old-world sensibility, spice, dark fruit and smoky flavours to the younger, more fruit-forward and lighter wines that showcase the freshness and diversity of the region. The wines are curated to showcase the diversity of the Ribera del Duero’s terroirs, the outstanding quality of its wines and emerging modern styles and blends.
Tim Atkin MW visited 58 bodegas and tasted just under 600 wines to select the top 100 for 2023. Discussing his selection, Tim Atkin MW comments; “Despite the fact that it is overwhelmingly planted with just a single red grape: Tempranillo. The more I visit Ribera del Duero, the more I am convinced of its quality and diversity. The whites are getting better and better by vintage, but it’s the reds that are mostly responsible for the region’s well-deserved worldwide reputation. It’s time people began to appreciate just how unique the wines can be from different villages, vineyards and sub-regions. It is clear from this year’s top 100 selection that Ribera del Duero has so much to offer right now.”

As in previous years, this tasting also included the Best Ribera del Duero on a Budget mini-selection chosen by Tim Atkin MW, which comprises of a meticulously chosen group of wines that showcases the extraordinary value for money that the region can deliver. These wine all received 91 points +, and retail in Spain for less than €15.
This year, the tasting featured a new selection highlighting Unrepresented Wines that are currently unavailable in the UK. These wines were identified during the same tasting process as the Top 100 Selection, by scoring 91+ points by Tim.
Located north of Madrid, in Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero DO is the cradle of many of Spain’s most sought-after and applauded wines.
