Exceptional Committee rates the 2022 vintage as Very Good

Ribera del Duero had an Exceptional Committee composed of twelve nationally recognized experts, including seven personalities from the wine sector, including sommeliers, Michelin-starred restaurant wine selection managers, and influential figures in the national wine scene, as well as oenologists from Ribera del Duero.

The Exceptional Committee conducted a tasting of 12 wines (2 whites, 2 rosés, and 8 reds) representative of the Designation of Origin, previously selected by the Technical Department of the Regulatory Council. The group of experts analyzed these wines, most of them directly from the barrel, using their knowledge and experience to assess the qualities of each at the present moment and their potential in the future when the product reaches the final consumer.

Each committee member provided their personal assessment, sealed in an envelope and delivered to the full Regulatory Council of the DO. Taking into account the criteria of these professionals and internal reports from the Council's technicians, the Council decided to rate the 2022 harvest as Very Good.

The result was announced through a press conference held at the Ribera del Duero headquarters in Roa (Burgos) with the presence of the President of the DO Regulatory Council, Enrique Pascual, as well as spokespersons from the Exceptional Committee, who evaluated the wines produced with the 2022 harvest.

According to Enrique Pascual: "It has been a very complicated year in terms of climate and harvest, and yet the wines from this vintage are being wines with structure and exceptional freshness. Given the very dry year we have experienced, the jury's results have been fantastic, and we believe we can be proud."

Wines of the 2022 vintage
The 2022 harvest season started on August 30 and lasted for 74 days until November 12. A total of 105,038,409 kilograms of grapes were harvested, with an increase in white varieties, mainly albillo mayor.

The wines from the 2022 campaign in Ribera del Duero will be characterized by a marked personality, expressing the terroir and the hands that create them. White and rosé wines will feature significant aromatic intensity and great freshness, suitable for brief to medium stays in barrels that can contribute greater aromatic complexity and gustatory structure. The red wines will be warm, highly structured, and complex aromatically, ideal for short, medium, and long stays in barrels.
