The Exceptional Committee of Ribera del Duero has evaluated the 2023 vintage as excellent

The Exceptional Committee of Ribera del Duero recently assessed the 2023 vintage as "very good." Gathered at the headquarters of the Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin Ribera del Duero, wine experts analyzed the unique weather conditions of the last harvest. On June 10, 2024, the Council officially classified the 2023 vintage as "very good," based on evaluations by the Exceptional Committee comprised of sommeliers, oenologists, specialized journalists, and technical reports from the Council's technicians.

This committee, including notable figures such as Fernando Mayoral Santamaria, Diego González, Raquel Pardo, among others, tasted 12 representative wines of the D.O., including whites, rosés, and reds selected for their characteristics and aging potential. The Plenary Council then ratified this evaluation during a press conference in Roa, Burgos, attended by Council President Enrique Pascual and members of the Exceptional Committee.

The 2023 harvest campaign, involving 7,425 winegrowers across 27,256.10 hectares of vineyards, yielded 117,619,302 kilograms of grapes, marking a 12% increase from 2022, predominantly of the Tinta Fina variety. Despite climatic challenges, the grapes exhibited remarkable balance in terms of alcohol, acidity, and pH, enabling the production of high-quality wines. These wines offer a diversity of aromas and a complex structure, reflecting the unique terroir of Ribera del Duero.

Enrique Pascual praised the exceptional quality of the 2023 wines, highlighting the dedication of winegrowers and winemaking professionals in overcoming obstacles. He underscored their essential contribution to producing a superior vintage.

Cheers to the 2023 vintage!
