Ribera del Duero wines, benchmark in volume and value in the Spanish market

The results of the latest Nielsen report, which analyzes the size of the D.O. wine universe over the last 12 months, revealed great results for Ribera del Duero. Spanish consumers are betting on the added value offered by Ribera del Duero. This is shown by the fact that, among all DO wines, Ribera del Duero has the highest growth in value share, reflecting its commitment to quality and differentiation. With a volume share of 16.4%, Ribera del Duero remains the second largest DO for red wine in the Spanish market.

Ribera del Duero is the DO in Spain with the best overall performance in 2021, reaching a market share in volume of 10.4% (1.1 points higher than in 2020) and a market share in value of 16.8% (1.6 points higher than in 2020), thus consolidating its position as the Designation of Origin with the highest growth in value share. The Nielsen data confirm Ribera del Duero's position as Spain's second-largest quality brand in value, both in Food and Hospitality.

In terms of DO red wines, Ribera del Duero strengthened its position with a volume share of 16.4% (2.2 points higher than in 2020), up to 13.5% (1.7 points higher than in 2020) in Food & Beverage and reaching 21.8% (1.4 points higher than in 2020) in On-trade. By geographical areas, this new edition of the Nielsen Report has shown that the Ribera del Duero DO shows a strong performance both in the south of the country and in the Madrid region.

Likewise, this year's results have revealed how, in the specialist channel (Internet, Wine Shops, Cellar Sales, Gourmet Shop), wines with DO Ribera del Duero have achieved a great impact during 2021, where their volume sales have increased by 10% over 2020, mainly due to the good performance of sales in the Internet and Wine Shop channels. In fact, these channels have become key for the Designation of Origin, once 51% of consumers who made online wine purchases in 2021 added Ribera del Duero to their shopping basket. In the case of Vinotecas, this percentage reached 48%.

Wouldn't it be interesting to compare this data with the performance of Ribera del Duero wines in the Canadian market?
